While looking around for Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition, I came across a site at Microsoft.com that states its sole purpose is: “It’s about giving students Microsoft professional tools at no charge.”
Wow. I’ve been a student for many years, taking one class here and there at local community colleges and have never heard of this offering.
If you have a TechNet subscription, then some of these products are already available to you, such as the Server Operating Systems; however, even my TechNet (standard for $199/yr) doesn’t provide tools like Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Professional or Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio 2008 R3 or even Microsoft Windows Embedded Standard 7!!
So sign up if you have a student email address at your college/university and start programming in Visual Studio 2010 Professional!
As a final benefit, you get a free Microsoft exam voucher. That alone is worth the sign up.
